Wednesday 26th September

Cari Amici,

I am very much looking forward to the first Amici rehearsal next Wednesday 26 th September with a further ten rehearsals to follow before the first performance of Messiah on December 5th. As many of you are aware the work is vocally and physically demanding and I intend to ensure we are match fit by early December.

Thus please make every effort to be at each and every rehearsal. Please also use the Novello Watkins Shaw edition or borrow a copy and ensure you have the same rehearsal marks in your score as printed in the Novello WS.

On Wednesday we will begin with;
He Trusted in God
And with his Stripes
All we like sheep

During the course of the term ahead I will also at times look at the Brahms and would ask that you have the score with you from week 2 , October 3.

Canterbury Music Club opens its 18/19 season with a programme of scintillating music for Winds by Enescu, Strauss and Mozart in the glorious ballroom of Charlton Park, Bishopsbourne. I welcome as many of you as possible to come and savour the music performed by thirteen wonderful musicians at 15.00, September 30.

Until Wednesday

Message from Grenville

Cara Amici
Where did the summer go? Maybe a function of continuing to clock up the years but time does fly? And so , as such, we will begin a very busy year of rehearsals and concerts in just under three weeks time on,
Wednesday September 26th.
I am delighted to report that Christopher Gower will be back in his familiar position as accompanist having almost recovered full mobility following his accident last December. (My thanks to Stefan Cato for extending his work with us whilst Christopher was indisposed. I am so fortunate to be able to work with such outstanding musicians!)

We will be rehearsing Handels Messiah for the performances to be given on ;
Wednesday December 5th in Holy Trinity Church, Sandgate Road, Folkestone . Concert starts at 19.30
Lucinda Messer
Jennifer Brisk
Robin Whitehouse
Tony Eldridge
Sunday December 9th in Colyer Fergusson Hall, University of Kent, Canterbury. Concert starts at 19.00

In addition we will give a workshop performance of Vivaldi Gloria in The Beaney House of Arts and Knowledge on Saturday December 15. 11.00

We will continue to rehearse Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem for Performances in 2019 as follows;
Sunday March 10th, St Mary and Eanswythes Church, Folkestone (Brahms four hands at one piano version) 15.00

latest fundraising news for Amici concert funds

The weekly raffle has raised an amazing £596 to date, so keep those pounds coming each week at rehearsals. The lunch organised by Jacqui Mack and Christine Brisk raised another £350.

Anthea is making a big splash by ‘Swimming the Channel’ – well the equivalent in pool lengths, and would love you to sponsor her. The swim will eventually be a total of 22 miles, or 38 kms or 1280 lengths of the pool and you can sponsor her by any of these units. Speak to her at rehearsals and she will give you more details.

We would of course be interested in any other ideas that anyone has.

A message from Kerry

I am really looking forward to working with Amici again this term.

The men will be singing the Toreador song (rather than the Toreador March in the book). I am attaching the PDF which I found online for free, – I will also print copies to bring along on Wednesday

I hope this is ok?

best wishes
