Monday Music – welcome back

Dear All

Great to be back for a new term of Monday Music.  We will all miss Grenville this term of course while he is having a well deserved break in France.   We look forward to having him back with us in the Autumn, fully refreshed after his holiday.  We are lucky though to have Phil Self back again to keep us singing happily through to the summer break.

We now have the dates for next term - those of you who pay by term will have already paid for 24 April as it was included in the fees for last term, so the cost as from next Monday 1st May will be £27.50.  This can either be paid on line or by cheque made payable as usual to Canterbury Cantata Trust.  Weekly of course it is still just £2.50.

If you want to pay on line for the term please go to the Members' website shop by following this link:

I just want to take this opportunity to thank Jenny, Caroline, and Anne for covering for me earlier this year while I was away.

Best wishes

Monday Music Summer 2017

Dear Monday Musicians,

Thank you again for your huge efforts on April 1/8th to bring to a wider audiences attention the fact that we feel better when we sing together!

I have to be away from Canterbury, largely in France over the next few weeks and am delighted that Phil Self, who you know well and is such a wonderful musician, will lead the sessions for a while.

We are in close contact and will be working together on developing a new collection of materials for use on Mondays.

Dates of sessions

Monday 24th April
Monday May 1,8,15,22
June 5,12,19,26
July 3,10,17

Have a great time together!

All best wishes

Message from Kerry

Dear Amici

I am very excited to be working with you all again this term. I will be taking rehearsals from next Wednesday (26th) and we will be looking at the Karl Jenkins Te Deum and one or two pieces from the Peter Gritton's 'Encores for Choirs' in preparation for a performance on Wednesday 5th July. I understand that some of you may already have 'Encores for Choirs' - if so, please do bring them along to the rehearsals. I understand that Maggie will be providing copies of the Te Deum and Encores for members who have ordered them.

I look forward to seeing you all very soon

with best wishes

Message from Grenville to Amici and Monday Music

Dear Monday Music, Cari Amici,
The end of a momentous week of music making is in sight before a short break for you and a slightly longer one for me! My thanks to every one for such hard work and dedication to choral singing in so many different genres these last months. Amici's  whole hearted embrace of Mozart  Requiem and Jenkins Armed Man  promises a great concert in November. Last Wednesday's final rehearsal, attended by friends and partners, resulted in receiving some lovely comments about Amici, reflecting not only the quality of music making but also the warmth of welcome and the caring atmosphere.
Monday Music similarly demonstrated both theses elements of CCT as  one of the selected singing groups to appear at the Shirley Hall on Saturday April 8th as  part of Top Choir Kent, organised  by Canterbury Rotary Club for the tenth successful year. Monday Music was the first group to appear and sang wonderfully! The audience were enthralled, the organisers  complimentary and the Trust the recipient of a cheque for £200.
Next day April 9th, the start of this weeks Bach Journey with a moving  performance of the Mass in B Minor at Colyer Fergusson, given by Canterbury Cantata and Camereta leading to the concluding performance on Saturday 15th , of Bach St John Passion (17.00. St Eanswythe's Church Folkestone) There are a few tickets left to hear this extraordinary drama in music and in so doing, begin your Easter holyday.
With every best wish

Monday Music Top Choir of Kent event

Dear All

Just a reminder that on Saturday 8th April, some of us will be singing at the Shirley Hall, King’s School to start off the Top Choir of Kent event.  This will be very informal and just give an example of what we enjoy every Monday !!  Please wear smart casual dress with your  MM scarves etc as usual.  We will rehearse at 1.30 pm and then be free until the evening performance, please try to arrive by 7.00 pm if possible.  Free parking is available at Christchurch University if needed.  If you wish to stay for the whole evening that is fine or you can leave after our performance if you wish.  It should be a great evening so hopefully we will have a good turn out to support Monday Music.  Grenville will bring a foolscap sheet with the songs we shall be singing from our repertoire so you don’t need to bring your folders.

There will be no sessions of Monday Music now until 24th April.
I will send a further e mail with the dates etc. for next term.
Hope to see you on Saturday

Guide to ordering Amici subscriptions and scores on-line

This guide describes the way we want to handle Amici subscriptions and the purchase of scores for the summer term. As far as is possible we would like you to use our web-based ordering system and online payments by credit card. Why? To reduce the administrative burden on the Amici committee, to reduce the queues at the beginning of term, and to provide you with a record of your purchases.

Please go to Shop/Shop – Guide for summer 2017 for the detailed guide.

Monday Music and Skylarks

Cari Amici,
I am delighted to report that Monday Music contributed wonderfully to the concert that was given in St Peter's Methodist Church on Saturday last, April 1. The concert shared with Lemon Zingers and the Swedish Ume Pop Choir was a really uplifting celebration through singing and demonstrated wonderfully our strap line caring through singing.
The event was to help raise funds for The Kelly Turner Fund, ( see The concert raised over £850.
So too tomorrow at 14.00 , St Paul's Church, April 4th when  Canterbury Skylarks ,joined by some members of Pimlico and Medway Skylarks will commemorate the two hundred year anniversary of James Parkinson identifying the condition, and sing to raise funds for Parkinsons UK.  Do come and support them, bring a cake maybe,  help the research and change attitudes to Parkinson's.
All best wishes
